BALAST AND PLAN OF DRIFT

For me, the best small boat designer is Matt Layden, Paradox is THE boat easiest and simple in the world (I even had some time the idea of ordering a plan ), the main feature of this boat are the "Chines-runners" (basically there small fins on each side of the chine who acting a bit like a cross between a wing plane and a ski edge) a very brainstorm invention in my opinion. So I decided to adapt the idea to my boat
but I wanted to find an other solution for the ballast, on Matt Layden's ships, balast is inside the boat, thing useful in some cases, but I still wanted a small keel outside for to lower the center of gravity and also to protect the sole, that's where I did got the idea to associate of chines-runners with two small keels profiles .

Although Paradox has only "Chines-runners" as anti-drift sytem, I wanted a drift, if only to refine the driving stability and reduce the gaits following the pilot workload.

One of the main difficulties in small boat, is finding a place for the daggerboard, (especially if you do not need a huge cockpit) a good idea was saber drifts on each side but I ' have preferred to have a pivoting drift which "fuse" (in case the seabed meet too quickly the water surface ...).
in putting the daggerboard case on one side, I managed to eliminate the disadvantage of a central drift, without really damage for the cruising, and I could have more off bulk inside the boat

 RIGGING

Note: Specifications was rigging and take up  the mast in less than half an hour, which excluded a lot of riggs.

I have studied a lot of rigg, one than inspired me the most at first, was the classic gaff sloop (I find it's the most beautiful rigg) but we are away from the rigg simplified originally planned, then I studied the gaff cat-boat ... more simplified yes, but it certainly could be improved a bit, especially reefing system, there was also the system of  rolling up  around the mast but it require a mast of greater length and more difficult to make ..., another nice idea: the sail junk, not too bad, but not to my taste, has after flumbling the best rigg that was needed was the lug sail with a roller furler boom.

clarification  on the marconi rigg (if you have too much humor and self-mockery not read thank you)

It must be admitted that the marconi rigg present on 95% of moderns sailboats  is the most efficient (not much more powerful, but  powerful still),but  for some peoples proliferation of marconi's rigg is the combined of  fashion, of lobbying the boating industry, and of arbitrary rules of racing gauges), but apart from the racing yachts or cruise with efficient crews, you  may have observed that many boaters (like me) often sailing with a bad setting of rigg (at least the rigg is not set an optimum manner), as we see  price of chandlery it 's really a mess, all application to find settings without make the boat realy much faster (for those who are bored at sea it 's very practical, but not for me, thank you) also this type of  rigging request a really bigger mast so more expensive, more dunnage, harder to make and more complicated to carry it.

And then, as you added together the price of the mast, sails, winchs, pulleys, shackles, rails, a lot  of halyards all colors, the furler, the drum, the mainsail full-baten a spill-fluctuating self-regulated, the Genoese with profile mylar-thermo-reflective quinto-radial, spinnaker shape memory, retractable bowsprit reticulated carbon (baked thermostat 7 for 72 hours), the kevlar stick ... I forget I forget ... (You must also add the little mittens to have class and not damage yours hands workers ) when you have finished making your hull you really need a lot of overtime for you pay a little turn on the water ... not to mention the weight of all this paraphernalia,

In conclusion, the marconi rigging is really quite suitable for racing and performance (though in my opinion it have a so strong ratio cost/performance  ), but not for solo sailors unambitious like me.
